Kline’s 2014 edition of Professional Nail Care: Global Market Brief reveals that the overall growth in Asia is in line with the global market growth; nevertheless, dynamics vary from one country market to another. Japan is the market that stands out the most, driving Asia’s growth with a 10% increase in sales.
The Japanese market has a strong tradition in manicures. Nail art seems to be always “in vogue,” and Japan is considered globally as one of the leading trendsetters in this area. In 2014, several color and texture trends dominate in the Japanese professional nail care arena. This includes glossy-matt finishes, pastel nails, nudes for fingernails, and darker colors for toenails.
One recent trend that particularly stands out are so-called “business nails”, which is described as a new, upcoming trend among young Japanese businessmen. In an effort of becoming more distinctive in their workplace, business men have started getting fancy nailart on their fingernails (one nail), including pastel colors or gems.
As the largest market with a strong nail care culture, Japan also leads the region in terms of innovation and is expected to grow at the fastest rate, at a double digit CAGR through 2019.
