The Way Forward: How Sustainability Has Transformed Asia Retail
Over the last 10 years, sustainability in retail has evolved from a “nice to have” concept that primarily found a home in the marketing and branding side of a business to an existential requirement that touches every part of a business. Retailers have had to transform the way they do business and consumers, especially younger consumers, have taken note. In today’s beauty retail environment, sustainability goes well beyond meeting consumer demands for recyclable packaging and “green” formulations – it means embedding sustainable practices across supply chain operations, using technology to collaborate with partners and monitor impact, and building out robust ESG-related initiatives that support both the environment and the people that live there. For today’s retailers, sustainability is a part of everyone’s job, with roles as diverse as merchandising, sales, operations, marketing, supply chain and government relations all playing a significant part in their sustainability journey.
